Mysterious Gothic Bedroom

The Gothic style was very popular in the 12th century but also during the Victorian age. It’s a style characterized by mysticism and by sophistication. The décor needs to be dramatic. A gothic bedroom can be very charming and very relaxing if you know how to decorate it.The bedroom can be illuminated with an iron carved chandelier but you can also place candlesticks on the wall to create a more romantic atmosphere.

The furniture is a Gothic-style space needs to be heavy and made of dark wood. Gothic interior decors usually feature rich colors such as deep red or purple and the rooms feature low intensity ambient lighting.

Bathroom Lighting Ideas - Ambient Lighting For Your Bathroom

When it comes to creating a functional and stylish bathroom, many people focus on getting a new suite or adding colour to the walls. However, one of the best and most appropriate measures you can take to add appeal and ambience to your bathroom is to focus on the lighting.
Why is bathroom lighting so important? A bathroom is one of the most functional rooms in the home, where grooming and beauty routines are applied and performed. For this purpose alone, it is essential that you have decent lighting to be able to see what you are doing. Ambient lighting can give your bathroom the functional appeal it requires, as well as allowing it to transform the room into a haven for relaxing.

What is ambient lighting exactly?

It is a term used to refer to lighting fixtures that work together to create illumination. Ambient lighting is a flexible way to add lighting to any room, as it enables you to choose different styles of lighting, sizes and areas of the bathroom to focus on.

You might need to be creative in deciding where to place your lighting. Ambient lighting doesn't just need to be fixed onto the ceiling, but you can consider placing it on walls, above vanity areas or mirrors. Task areas used for grooming and beauty routines will need to be well-lit, so consider cross illumination when installing lights as this ensures no shadows are created. Avoid placing single overhead lights above a mirror as this can cause shadows on your face, thus making grooming and beauty tasks more difficult.

Consider how much natural light you get in the bathroom, and incorporate this into the room as much as you can. Allow light to shine through window spaces by cleaning your windows regularly, removing net curtains, if you have any, and de-cluttering your window space. If you can't get much natural light into your bathroom, then choose energy-efficient, eco-friendly fluorescent bulbs which replicate natural light.

If your bathroom is very much vintage dominated, with classic gold fixtures and fittings, then choose lighting that blends in well with this style. You could probably opt for something a bit more contemporary, such as lighting with coloured rings or reflective surfaces, if your bathroom is aiming for the more modern approach.
By having this, you can adjust the level of lighting according to the specific mood you want to set in your bathroom.

Luxury Clifton View 7 Apartment by Antoni Associates

In the case of the Clifton View 7 Apartment designed by Antoni Associates in Cape Town South Africa, the clients brief was to completely strip out the double-level apartment and to re-configure the interior layout to accommodate four bedrooms, en-suite, a gym, entertainment cocktail bar, cinema room and wine cellar. The site is perched over dramatic boulders and the Atlantic Ocean and experiences sweeping views of the Clifton beaches as well as the Twelve Apostles mountain range. Access is gained to the apartment on the upper level. The dining room, living room and kitchen are open plan and have direct access to the extensive terrace.

Moving through the apartment is a journey of styles and ideas that all fuse together to make the apartment a tailored and personally nuanced space. This tailored look was achieved by avoiding over use of recognizable brand names; the clients instead were keen to create one off signature pieces through the OKHA Design Studio. A feature spiral stair was introduced to link the two levels of the apartment. Feature timber screens extend from the upper level through the upper volume to contain this circulation space. The pool bar leads onto the swimming pool and spa terrace with uninterrupted views of the seascape. The infinity pool allows the eye to flow from the pool to the expanse of the Atlantic Ocean.
